There are a variety of sports and classes that you can take your child to. It is really important that you find something that is good for them but that they also enjoy.

We might seem a little biased but there is a great deal of research that shows how highly beneficial football is. And it is also a lot of fun.

Within this article, we are going to look at the top benefits of football training for your 7 year old.

Helps Them Academically

Performing aerobic activities, like football, when we are children has been shown to increase brain development in all areas, decrease stress, promote concentration and boost confidence. Sport has been shown to benefit children on an academic level as it boosts their memory and thinking skills.

There is so much research out there on how even minimal activity can boost brain function and enhance socialisation which will benefit them in school and after it.

Helps The To Develop Physical Literacy

Physical literacy is the fundamental physical skills that children need to develop. Basic skills like running, jumping, throwing and much more are the building blocks of all physical activity. Football will be able to help with the development of your child’s physical literacy.

Running

It will come as no surprise that football has a lot of running but it also has different types of running. Endurance running for long periods, sprinting, quick changes in speed and multi-directional running are all a part of football training. These different types of running will help your child’s physical literacy and help their physical development.

Jumping, Dodging And Hopping

When you think of football and jumping, you may only think of jumping to head the ball but there are many moments in a game when both the players’ feet are off the ground. Sliding into tackles, quick steps to track attackers and jumping to avoid players and to dodge defenders are all the types of movements that will help your child’s physical literacy.

These types of moves will also help your child to develop their spatial coordination, balance, agility and reaction times.

Kicking

This one is slightly more obvious when it comes to football. Your child will kick the ball a lot in football but, even more importantly, they will learn how to control it with their feet, gain strength in the legs and learn how to kick the ball to the exact right spot.

This will aid their mobility, agility, speed and it increases the strength of their lower body and core.

Throwing And Catching

Goalies do a lot of throwing and catching and, at BSS, we want all of the kids to try out every position so your child will have a go in goal during their time with us. “Throw ins” are also a big part of football so being good at throwing is a good skill to have. Players will also need to learn how to trap and “catch” the throw in so it benefits their team.

Practising these in football training will help to develop a good level of concentration and help them to learn how to track the ball as it is in flight.

Helps Their Mental Health

Football training has positive benefits on your child’s mental health as it will help to build their confidence, their social interactions and their general well-being.

Any form of physical activity is highly beneficial to your child’s mental health as it will help them manage stress, improve their mood, improve their sleep, helps with memory and brain function and helps to manage the symptoms of depression and anxiety.

But, research has found that football is exceptionally good for children’s mental wellbeing. It has been proven to reduce the likelihood of depression among children by up to 45%.
