What Happens In Our Kids Football Classes For 7 Year Olds
Every class follows the same reliable structure, so children know what to expect while still being challenged:
| Stage | Focus |
| Introductions | Coach outlines session expectations |
| Warm-up | Prepares the body for activity reinforces why warm-ups matter |
| Body & ball manipulation | Builds coordination and ball familiarity |
| Topic work | One focus area per session – juggling, passing, dribbling, etc. |
| Small-sided game | Futebol de Salão (FDS) game situations |
| Cool down | Returns the body to a natural state and to minimise the injury risk and promotes active recovery |
| End of session talk | Closes the session and reviews progress |
Over the course of a year, children cycle back through each skill area repeatedly. This repetition is deliberate as it keeps sessions engaging while reinforcing technique as a whole, rather than treating each skill as a one-off lesson.
What Will My 7 Year Old Learn At BSS?
At 7, children build the core football skills that carry through the rest of their BSS training, while working toward their first ICFDS Skills Badges which are achievable through regular attendance at the 1st Step and Kick Start levels.
Just as importantly, your kid will build friendships and learn respect and teamwork. These are values that BSS builds into training alongside technical skill, because they matter as much in life as they do on the pitch.
“Learning teamwork skills early in childhood education can positively impact a child’s overall growth. Through group activities, children learn to share responsibilities, negotiate roles, and support each other in achieving common goals. These experiences lay the foundation for life skills development that will benefit them in various aspects of life, from academic success to professional and personal relationships.”

What Makes BSS Training Different?
Our training is made up of our BSS methodology which rests on four principles:
- Emphasis on individual skills
- Futebol de Salão
- Increased time training with the ball
- Physical, mental & tactical training
Together, these produce players who are highly skilled but also respectful teammates and well-rounded people — not just one or the other.
Why Does BSS Use Futebol de Salão?
Futebol de Salão, the Brazilian version of futsal, is played on a smaller pitch with a smaller, heavier, low-bounce ball. That combination makes for a fast, tightly compressed, high-pressure game which gives players roughly 600% more touches of the ball than a standard football match.
Futsal has given many high profile players an excellent start to their football careers, including Lionel Messi:
“As a little boy in Argentina, I played futsal on the streets and for my club. It was tremendous fun, and it really helped me become who I am today.”
– Lionel Messi, www.uefa.com
This is why we use it as part of our training at BSS. We want our graduates to go on to know that they could reach the top in football, if that is the path they choose.
The Benefits of Kids Football Classes for 7 Year Olds
At seven, the biggest benefit is that effort starts to pay off in visible ways – children earn their first ICFDS Skills Badges, see their technique stick, and begin to understand that improvement comes from practice. This is the age where football becomes a lesson in perseverance as much as skill.
| Benefit | What it develops at age 7 |
| Perseverance and work ethic | The ICFDS scheme rewards effort over talent, teaching children that progress comes from sticking with something and putting in the work. |
| A real sense of achievement | Earning their first 1st Step and Kick Start badges gives children tangible, hard-won milestones to be proud of. |
| Lasting technique | Deliberately cycling back through each skill over the year embeds it properly, rather than treating skills as one-off lessons. |
| Self-motivated practice | Children begin wanting to practise at home, taking ownership of their own progress for the first time. |
| Broad physical literacy | More complex movement, coordination and agility become established as an athletic base for any sport they choose later. |
| A foundation for what’s next | Consolidating core skills at seven prepares children for the increasing demands of the next stage of BSS training. |
Is 7 a Good Age to Start Football?
If your child hasn’t been with us since five, seven is still a good age to start. Children this age are ready to concentrate for a full session, follow a structured class, and take genuine pride in earning their first badges.
And because BSS builds from individual technique upwards, a child starting at seven isn’t playing catch-up so much as beginning at the same foundation as everyone else. The ICFDS Skills Badge Scheme gives every child, whatever their starting point, a clear path to work along at their own pace.
